Hardcore Panhandling

In the summer following his senior year of high school, Herb Urban took a job as a bus boy on a cruise ship. During his travels, the ship dockedSailing, sailing, over the ocean blue ... in Bombay and Herb was granted a few hours shore leave. As he was walking down the gang plank, he was confronted by an old beggar woman cradling a dead baby.

"Please help me," said the woman, her eyes welling with tears, "my child has died and I have no money for the funeral. Without the proper ceremony his soul will never rest. Some money, please sir, for the soul of this baby."These are Rupees. Really.

Both sympathetic to the horrible scene and embarassed by his own revulsion, Herb handed the woman a handful of rupees. A few days later, the ship docked in Bombay again and it was the

    Same Baby,

      Same Story,

        Different Woman.

And you thought panhandling for pierce and tattoo money was hardcore.
